Hello Paradise

As I entered my room and looked at my view of crystal clear, bright blue water lined by palm trees swaying in the wind, my only thought was,"Hello paradise." I recently enjoyed a lovely stay at Hotel Elganzo in San José del Cabo. How this beautiful last-minute vacation came to be is quite an interesting story.

Feeling extremely drained from work, I desperately needed a change of scenery and some time to reflect. Though I was happy to be working full-time and making a meaningful contribution, my Monday to Friday, 8-4 routine had me seriously considering if this was the right kind of work for me (a desk job in front of a computer) and if I was truly ready for my future. Feeling prompted to consider what I really wanted to do with my life and where I saw myself in the next few years, I decided that a change needed to be made; I decided that 2016 would mark the end of my hesitation to explore new career fields while I still had the chance, to try new experiences, to travel. . . essentially, to broaden my horizons while also taking the time to truly enjoy my youth. I would no longer settle for anything that I simply did not find fulfilling. Just like that, my resignation was submitted and in front of me was a world of possibilities! (*I held an intern position, so I strongly urge others to consider if they are in a flexible enough position both professionally and financially to make a decision like this.)

My strong dislike for the cold weather heavily influenced my decision to choose travel as my first big step forward as I desperately longed to be somewhere warm & sunny. Known for its beautiful landscape, Los Cabos, Mexico it was! After saying my goodbyes and having thankfully landed a new position for the new year (details to come), I packed my bags and off I went! The moment my flight took off, excitement stirred within me, confirming that I had made the right decision. And I had, my vacation was absolutely amazing! Prior to reaching my final destination, I visited Philadelphia, Chicago and Dallas (thank you American Airlines), allowing me to explore new cities and meet new people. From spending time by the pool, to drinking a few mojitos, to making new friends while soaring down a canyon, my vacation was definitely one to remember! I look forward to the stamps that will continue to fill my passport! As 2017 rolls around, remember that the year is yours. Make it a good one - and maybe even enjoy a vacation or two!
